SketchUp Pro 2026 New Features:
Freshening up SketchUp Pro 2026:
- Scenes Panel
Now that you have better toggling visibility with hidden geometry and objects, we decided to take it a step further. We split up hidden geometry and objects so you can save them separately on a Scene-by-Scene basis. You will see a new checkbox in the Scenes panel that lets you save the visibility state of hidden objects. This gives you better visibility control per Scene.
- Section Planes & Scenes
Keeping with the Scene theme, you can now save Section Plane visibility per Scene. Why? Since Section Planes are grouped with objects, we want to make sure they behave like objects in terms of visibility per Scene. Before this change, only top-level visibility for Section Planes could be saved per Scene. Again, more control in your Scenes — and consistency. Winning!
- Hidden Objects are now Editable
Good news…hidden objects are now editable. What does this mean, you ask? When you select a hidden object in the Outliner, instead of completely disappearing when you try to edit your object, it will appear as a mesh so you can more easily make edits. So keep on keeping on without any hindrance to your editing workflow.
- Improvements to Grips
A small, but powerful feature: you can now use the Rotate tool when toggling through ALL Grips — just like the Move tool! This provides more consistency between the tools so you can stay focused on your project.
- Empty Objects
Picture this: you are working up a new table design and quickly add a lamp to make it look more realistic — but you run into an issue! You did it too fast and forgot to group your lamp and table separately. Because of this, everything is glued together as one, creating editing issues galore and wasted time. Fear no more! Now, you can right-click on a space and make a grouped object or component from scratch. No more triple-clicking, or drawing it elsewhere just to place it where you want it. And, a bonus! When you create a new object from scratch, a window will pop up allowing you to name it right from the start. Say hello to the better model organization from the very start of your project. Talk about speeding up your workflow!
- New logo icons for SketchUp and its application suite
Go ahead with a brand-new version of SketchUp and its suite of apps. This means new app icons for SketchUp, LayOut, 3D Warehouse, Extension Warehouse, and Style Builder, as well as changed toolbar icons. The new flags align SketchUp with Trimble’s broader product portfolio and… they can be modeled in SketchUp!
- Tag Folders
I always wanted to make it easier for people who manage models to use the long, complex tag, and view lists. In this version, you can organize multiple tags in tag folders and control the visibility of folders by scene. Plus, folders can be expanded and collapsed, making it easier to analyze your tag structure and find the tags you need.
- Tag Filtering
It’s been a while since we’ve had the pleasure of introducing filtering in SketchUp’s Tags panel. Hope it is much easier to target specific tags. You can also use filtering when creating a tag folder: filter on a prefix or naming convention, select the “Select All from the Tag Details” menu, and press the Add Tag Folder button.
- Live Component Configuration
Dynamic components are a new type of configurable parametric object, and in this release, you can control them in SketchUp. To import components directly into SketchUp, open the 3D Image Bank in SketchUp and navigate to our SketchUp Lab Live component collection (or use the new Live Components search filter in the advanced search options). Select live components to read and upload to your SketchUp models!
- Start PreDesign from SketchUp
Along with SketchUp 2023, we’re also rolling out a new architectural research tool called PreDesign. Pro subscribers can launch PreDesign (in a web browser) from the SketchUp File menu. In PreDesign, you can geotag projects to understand seasonal and prevailing climates, how this climate can affect the comfort and lighting of the built space, and what design strategies might be useful for your project. Think of PreDesign as a new way to start architectural design projects in SketchUp.
- Under the hood: a rebuilt *.SKP
SketchUp 2023 brings a significant improvement behind the scenes: a recreation of the *.SKP file format. You will likely see a significant reduction in file size when you save your model in the new format, and we are excited about the additional workflow improvements that this new file format will open in the future.
- Direct Download Updates
As we release updates to SketchUp more frequently, we wanted to make it easier for users to access the improvements we’ve made between “major” releases. In this version, we are introducing direct download updates. This means that the next time a new version is released, you can use this update service to automatically download the correct language version. When an update is available, you will receive a notification in SketchUp. You can initiate the download update immediately at this point or postpone it for later. After downloading the update, you will be prompted to save and close the existing file so that SketchUp can be disabled. From there, you can install the update to the location you want on your computer.
Improvements in LayOut:
- Performance Improvements
For this release, we focused on improving LayOut’s selection and deletion capabilities—they’re now much faster! And don’t worry: we’re still committed to even more performance improvements in future releases. But, that’s not all… we also made some slick improvements to the Select Tool.
- Improved Select Tool
The Select Tool just got some major love. We wanted to help you make intentional – not accidental – moves with your crossing and window selection workflows. Now, when you click drag to create a crossing or window selection, you won’t mistakenly move anything! Previously, you may have accidentally moved an object when you really just wanted to change your selection. Now you’re more likely to get the result you wanted. Also, selections and moves now occur when clicking on the actual object as opposed to the object’s bounding box, strengthening that intentional workflow. If you’re now wondering, “How do I move an object?” – no worries, we got you covered. Just pre-select an entity and move from there.
What’s new in SketchUp Pro 26.1.252?
(Released on 10-03-2026)
SketchUp:
Contextual Notifications & Messages
- SketchUp now displays contextual notifications. These notifications can help you discover and operate new features relevant to what you are working on. You may now receive notifications in the following situations:
- Onboarding – Notifications intended for new SketchUp users that include guided workflows for features they may not be familiar with.
- Feature Updates – Announcements regarding updates and new capabilities.

- You can control which notifications will appear in SketchUp in the General section of Preferences by selecting Show urgent messages only.
Crash Fixes
- Fixed a crash that occurred when copying and pasting a Live Component while the Scale tool was still active after resizing it. Also fixed an issue where undoing the scale operations left the Live Component in a state where it could no longer be resized or reconfigured through the Component Properties View.
- (Windows) Fixed a crash related to DX12 rendering triggered by orbiting or zooming while using a 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse, notably after using extensions such as Medeek Wall.
- (MacOS) Resolved a crash that occurred when creating and moving a section cut while SketchUp was running in Multiple Document Interface (MDI) mode.
- Fixed a crash where users would receive duplicate error messages after editing a material with a texture and clicking Generate Textures.
Bug Fixes
- Inputting a specific length during uniform scale now scales along the selected axis grip instead of only along the red axis.
- Dragging a side handle during uniform scale no longer causes the handle to move further than the cursor position, breaking the alignment.
- URLs for buyers and resellers in commercial and educational sales now route to the intended webpages.
- (Windows) Fixed an issue where the “Show New Tags” context menu toggle could not be turned off.
- (Windows) Using Ctrl+ or Ctrl- to adjust the default number of segments no longer displays random symbols in the VCB.
LayOut:
Bug Fixes
- Files with invalid embedded or external table references will now successfully load into LayOut. The invalid table references will be removed from the file reference manager and table entities referencing them.
- (Windows) Fixed a crash that could occur when resizing a text box.
- (Windows) Addressed a crash that could occur when reloading a SketchUp model.
- (Windows) Fixed a crash when setting a line Dash.
- (Windows) Fixed a crash in the Color Panel.
- (Windows) Resolved a crash that could occur when closing a document.
- (Windows) Addressed an issue which would cause noisy edges to text when editing lightly colored text entities against a darker background.
- (MacOS) Fixed a crash that would occur when a font name contained over 32 characters.
Interoperability:
Bug Fixes
- Fixed MText colors not retained when importing DWG/DXF files. Resolved a regression where MText entities with multiple colors lost their individual color formatting when imported into LayOut, rendering all text in a single color instead of preserving the per-segment coloring from the original AutoCAD drawing.
Security Updates
- Security updates for Dynamic Components
Ruby API Additions and Improvements
- messagebox and UI.inputbox have been fixed to not unintentionally support HTML content.
